Our core activities are rock-climbing, mountaineering, scrambling and walking, although besides these members will also sometimes take part in mountain biking, caving, skiing and other outdoor activities. Our membership is drawn mainly from the South Manchester/East Cheshire area.
We have no entry requirements - all that we ask is that you make the effort to participate and fit in. We don't ask that you climb to a certain standard, indeed we positively welcome lower-grade climbers who may perhapsfeel that some of the more demanding clubs are not for them. That's not to say that we don't take it seriously, but we do go along with the idea that " the best climber is the one having most fun".
Each month we hold a weekend meet, usually staying in huts or bunkhouses, or sometimes camping. See the 'Meets List' page for a list of this year's meets. There is also a programme of regular day walks at weekends, either locally or further afield.
Every Tuesday evening in the summer (weather permitting), we'll go climbing on local crags in the Peak District or Lancashire quarries. In winter, we'll go to one of the local climbing walls. Of course, members also often arrange among themselves to climb or go walking on other evenings or at weekends.
We are a sociable club, and past social events have included parties, curry nights, theatre trips and even a ghost walk! We get together on the first and third Thursday each month at the Phoenix pub in Hazel Grove (on the A6 opposite Sainsbury’s, postcode SK7 4AH), so come along and have a chat. Alternatively, look out for us on the crags or at local indoor walls on Tuesday evenings, or get in touch with us through the links in the 'Contact Us' section.
